Dahlia Seeds - 25 count (LIMIT 4)
**LIMIT 4 PER CUSTOMER**
This listing is for one packet of 25 dahlia seeds.
Seeds have been open-pollinated and collected from my dahlia patch. They are cleaned, sorted, and counted by hand.
Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before your last frost. Plant out once the danger of frost has passed.
Days to Germination: 3-14
Light Preference: Full Sun
Height: 36-60 inches
Spacing: 12-24 inches
Unlike tubers, dahlia seeds are not true to the parent plant. Each seed will result in a brand-new dahlia!
The majority of blooms from open-pollinated dahlia seeds are single or semi-double. That's what the bees have the easiest access to. But if you're lucky, you may find a real diamond in the rough! It's a numbers game.
Dahlias grown from seed will produce tubers by the end of the season. You can dig, over-winter, and plant out again next season. If the tubers are small, I recommend storing them as clumps and dividing them the following year.
The best part of growing dahlias from seed is the anticipation and total surprise!
Germination Rate: 55-70%
*PLEASE NOTE* Extra seeds are included because germination is a bit spotty. For best results, I recommend using the paper towel method to germinate your seeds. Place seeds on a moist paper towel inside a zipper-lock bag, then in a warm spot. After 2-3 days, start checking for germination daily. Transfer sprouted seeds to your growing medium, then place under grow lights.
Possible seed parents: White Aster, Carmen Fiesta, HS Date, Snowbound, Ferncliff Rusty, Coralie, Hulin's Carnival, Take Off, Creme de Cassis, Cafe au Lait, Just Peachy, Hollyhill Jitterbug, Boom Boom White, Intrigue, Thomas Edison, Totally Tangerine, Henriette, Cafe au Lait - Royal, Wine Eyed Jill - Yellow, NOID White, and any others the bees had access to in my patch. The listed dahlias are known varieties that seed heads were gathered from.
